I’m sooo confused with Mammon cuz they’ve made him ace in the pride month art, and then he’s flirting with Levi in what feels like a sexual way, but honestly I’m not ace and I know it’s a spectrum, so whatever. But I don’t trust Viv with ace characters cause she HAS to make everything sexual anyways. Maybe Mammon didn’t even mean it in that way. But then Bee is shaming him and has to add on the ‘no one wants to bang you’ thing. Like yeah using sex to shame someone (who is apparently asexual) is so #coolgirl . But when no one wants to sleep with stolas it’s so sad boo hoo.

Like idk, I can’t speak for ace people at all, I just think that instead of representing how being aro, ace or both can be a spectrum, Viv is more interested in making everyone obsessed with sex. Or maybe they decided to make Mammon asexual long after they finished writing the episode and this doesn’t matter. But I feel they treated Alastor in a similar way. Anyway I love Mammon sooo much, he’s one of the only antagonists that hasn’t been watered down and had every action justified with ‘trauma’

I’m not ace too but I will admit lowkey it feels like Vivziepop attached that label onto Mammon at the last minute. The ace spectrum in TV shows is one of the labels that isn’t mainstream or highly represented compared to other sexualities such as pansexual, gay, bisexual, lesbian, etc.

So many asexual people will understandably cling to an asexual character as they feel seen. Like for example: Todd from Bojack Horseman or Alastor from Hazbin Hotel. I won’t lie, I did forget Mammon is ace, Anon 💀

I could’ve lived with the sins’ sexuality being ambiguous or up to the audience’s interpretation but oh well. Maybe nothing sexual happened between Leviathan and Mammon, I can see some very cute snuggling under the covers.

Either way Bee insulting Mammon, how no one wants to fuck Mammon and how he should fuck himself, makes her look even worse. Not only felt mean spirited and also felt ace-phobic.

Like imagine being Mammon and you rightfully call out your fellow sins for slumming with 2 lower class citizens. Then out of nowhere, your fellow sin insults you of how undesirable you are while being a confirmed asexual. 😭

Productivity Journey

Today was shitty. Slept almost all day. The weather is rainy. I love that, because it makes sleeping fun. I want to cuddle in this weather. But still, I am proud of myself for certain things. It's almost the dawn of 25th Oct. But until the sun comes out, I think I am going to consider it to be 24th. *Peace*

I am lowkey losing my ability to process memories. Maybe this is an impact of the steroid from the halers. I do not want to live with my memories lost. Or, maybe life is going to change. But then, I won't be able to teach anymore. Because I lose words amidst lectures and sentences nowadays. I wish I could be my older self, who remembered more. Could learn whole scripts fast (*even others lines*). So, I am lowkey hating halers right now. Especially the lupihaler.

Woke up and folded sheets.

Brushed, ate properly.

Finished watching Bojack Horseman.

Started working on my memoir. I don't know why, it has always been my dream of writing this piece. So, today, I started. I keep feeling like writing a book.

Took a session. Earned a bit.

Didn't obsess over facebook.

Wrote payslip for one college.

Did some Spanish on Duolingo.

Made dinner for baba.

Read only 3-4 pages.

Replied to mithi.

Took nasal spray, took inhaler once.

Did some journaling.

Couldn't work on my proposal.

Glee Mercedes: the show never fucking appreciated her, but I did. The most talented, the kindest friend, and way more than the sassy Black girl in my opinion, even if that’s all the show wanted her to be at times.

Flanaverse (is that what it’s called?) Dani: I can’t believe I haven’t talked about Dani here. But I adore her. She’s unbelievably complex, competent and brave. She deserved a happy ending dammit 😭

The Flash Iris: Of course I must talk about Iris, she’s the reason I came back to this hellsite after Sleepy Hollow blew up in my face. The Flash did her dirty countless times but I never stopped rooting for the best and prettiest reporter in Central City.

The Leftovers Nora: I love Nora so freaking much, unequivocally wounded and fucked up but always striving to grasp the last bits of normalcy available to her (in admittedly not always the healthiest ways) she may seem like an unstable powder keg but she’s way stronger than she ever gave herself credit for.

Bojack Horseman Todd: this hilarious goober is the most important and notable ace rep to hit the airwaves, but through his confusing and sometimes heartbreaking journey he never stopped being just a little guy.

Being Human Aidan: I did not like him at first, I was all about Josh and Sally and found Aidan comparatively boring, but man did this fucking dude grow on me. We’ve all seen the repentant vampire before but he was such a unique brand of failking slash lowkey dork about it that I couldn’t help falling in love with him.

My Flop Era: Is Lowkey Serving | Act 2, Entry #25

     I only got two hours of sleep. I was not able to get sleepy, so I tried watching a live broadcast of a beauty pageant. Lol. I have only watched the replays before because I like skipping through the commercials and chitchats of the host(s). I did not enjoy the production or the show itself (it's just a minor pageant) but joining the small community in the live comment section is fun. I guess this is what the musty dudes on Twitch feel like while watching someone do a game. Meifei's alarm went off at around 9AM (because she is not done packing) and I couldn't sleep since. Our flight is at 3:50 PM.     While preparing, Capt cakKe said he feels sad and and, "Ashita na lang," jokingly (means "let's do it tomorrow instead").     Pudai-Chan will be driving Meifei to the airport with Kootchie, because why not. While Capt cakKe and Tia Fei are the ones taking me there. We are all now at the airport and together, we had our "Last Supper". Lol. I ordered small udon and beef gyudon.     Meifei and I got stressed with the covid health report thingy we have to submit. The website is so unstable and the English translation is not good. We have to input data again and again because the website keeps on crashing. But we pulled through, and everything sailed smoothly after. I even took a selfie in the bathroom because my hair looked good. Lol. Our goodbye is.. something. Tia Fei and Capt cakKe were teary eyed. I wanted to give them a hug, especially Capt cakKe since he became some sort of a big brother to me, but I thought that would be too much. We are now at the boarding gate waiting. I don't have anything interesting going on so I'm just going to continue with my Bojack Horseman binge. I think the next time we'll talk again will be in the PH. I'm going to enjoy my last few moments on Japanese soil. For now, sayounara!

hmmmm not really sure if this is my best book that i read this year, or the book i enjoyed most that also came out this year.... just to be safe let me do both!! 

best book that came out this year: the mirror and the light by hilary mantel!! i actually grew up reading the wolf hall series and so this was a v personally nostalgic culmination for me :’)) kind of like the end of an era??

fave book that i read this year: exit west by mohsin hamid. literally not a day goes by where i don’t think about it... also a few honourable mentions: normal people by sally rooney (yeah....), the broken earth trilogy by n k jemisin (yeah!!!!) and wuthering heights (YEAH!!!!!!!)

9. best television series?

hello my pals ! after a very long day, i am finally here with an intro for a sexy lowkey demon !

BACKGROUND:

triggers: emotional abuse, brief mention of war, brief mention of considered abortion, substance abuse, brief implication of child neglect, brief mentions of death (but like.... from old age)

So… I’m currently too tired to do the ‘whole chart,’ but… a Sagittarius. Know this.

Now, to understand our dear Judith, you must first understand her parents. Her mother was a wealthy young woman, progressive in her views on social issues… for the time. Nonetheless, she was expected to hold up the standards of the time. Her father was the younger brother of a man deemed ‘a great soldier’ who died fighting in WWII. Followed by the memory of him and his own parents’ obsession with the man, he placed pressure on himself to live up to that standard. Shame there was no war………………….

They met at Judith’s mother’s debutante ball and hit it off. It was, what they perceived to be, a match made in heaven. But that’s always easy to say – it’s harder to prove when a good night culminates in an unexpected pregnancy. To avoid any public scandal on her part, Judith’s mother and father married before she began showing and moved to Mapleview where she would become an excellent mother and he would live up to his brother’s standards by… he was still figuring it out… maybe making the next great scientific advancement? or writing the next great American novel?

Sadly, in spite of her lifetime’s worth of training, Judith’s mother… proved to lack natural maternal instinct. Perhaps it was passed down from her own mother, transgenerational trauma beginning long, long, long ago. Judith’s father was so consumed with his grand ideas that he hadn’t the time to help! Between becoming the next Walt Whitman one day and the next Albert Einstein the next, all while working for his father-in-law, he just didn’t have any time at all!

Their marriage grew strained and, as Judith grew, they made it even clearer that she was the cause. If she, herself, didn’t do something spectacular with her life, then it was all for nothing!

Her father wasn’t forced into the Vietnam War as a part of the drafting lottery. No, as it grew bigger, as the army grew more desperate, as she began slowly maturing, as his marriage continued falling apart, he voluntarily entered in 1965, when Judith was seven. Before drafting even began!

Before he entered the war, Judith was the victim of plenty of degrading remarks and the occasional Unusually Odd Punishment (think bojack horseman w like beatrice seeing ~7y/o bojack take a cigarette and forcing him to smoke all of it bc he couldn’t waste a perfectly good cigarette!). However, the remarks grew more biting after he left for “the war effort.” The two moved back to California, her mother’s birthplace, to be closer to her mother’s father – an even better source of income when his sympathies were being played on.

...but it was suddenly back-to-work, no-sympathies-for-you when the war ended and Judith’s father was still alive… and, furthermore, when the war was lost. 

With her parents’ marriage worse off than ever, Judith’s unconscious attempts to please them and live up to their expectations began sooner than they would have had the war been won. Or had her father been shot. 

Probably.

Commercials began at seventeen, but they weren’t impressive. Minor roles began at eighteen, but they weren’t impressive. It wasn’t until she was picked up by an actual agent at twenty that she began actually shining, so to speak. 

Which is actually a great accidental pun on my part, as her first big role was, much like JLC’s, in one of the first slasher movies ever made. Hoorah! But it still wasn’t impressive. It wasn’t big or prestigious, Katharine Hepburn wouldn’t have taken the role. 

But what was even less impressive? 

The pregnancy that followed shortly thereafter. 

Her first thought was to find a doctor who ‘specialized’ in such ‘inconveniences.’ Between the knowledge that a lack of maternal instinct ran in her blood, all women in her lineage getting mistreated to the point that they were simply unfit, as well as the knowledge that she would have to immediately quit the career that had just begun if she wanted to raise the child… 

But the father wound up being a hurdle. He was meant to be a one-night-stand, but he started showing up… again… and again… and again… until she relented and confessed to him that she was pregnant with his child (so she assumed, at least). He was insistent that she keep it… so the compromise became she wouldn’t abort it, but she would immediately hand it off to the man to raise on his own.

Daniel, named by his father, was born. Judith kept in occasional contact, but ultimately tried to leave that chapter behind her.

After that small bump in the road, her agent began lining up more career offers for her. They ranged from OK-I-guess to Not-Katharine-Hepburn-But-Close-Enough. So she clearly went for the latter ones!

Now, for someone who tried to stay clear-headed enough… it became pretty hard as she grew more popular, was invited to more parties, and… given the decade, was surrounded by cocaine! Thus began some more god-awful decisions, a list so long even Leo Tolstoy would put it down before he could finish reading it.

A few years through her increasingly successful career and she found out that she’s gotten pregnant yet again, this time being the result of a one-night-stand had during a borderline bender. For a few days, she obviously considered abortion again. But… how good would it be for her image if she cleaned up and had the baby… and, who knows! maybe she would break the chain of terrible mothers! if she was willing to sacrifice hedonism, then she was clearly doing something right! and… she also felt some remorse for barely keeping in contact with Daniel… so hoorah! replacement!

Turns out she also didn’t have that mothering instinct :\

But it was not, at all, for lack of trying. She never intentionally mistreated her child, Mia (named for Mia Farrow) – she had family days with her and hung out with her and… tried to figure out how to bond with her. She was never cruel like her mother or her mother’s mother or mother’s mother’s mother, so on and so forth and what have you, but… she was Innocently Insensitive. Still caught up in The Scene, there were some nights that were… very loud when she forgot Mia was trying to sleep and invited a bunch of people over. 

Some hedonistic tendencies returned and she found herself allowing a nanny to care for the child more and more often. Never malicious, never cruel, even asked Danny Devito to be Mia’s godfather… but still wound up being a really bad mom.

When Mia moved out, she was beginning to realize she was too old to continue going down the road she was on – to continue making the same mistakes over and over. One child was college-aged, the other was… somewhat older, although she’d lost track of the years. Yeah, she sent birthday cards and made calls every year, but time had just begun blurring together…

As a side-note, this was also around the time she was encouraged to write a memoir. She wound up having to get a memoirist which is a wc!!

The “best thing possible” happened when her mother died a year ago. Her father had already passed, but that was in Fresno – a quick trip. Her mother died in Mapleview, where her roots were laid. Also pls picture her eulogy for her mother like the eulogy in “Free Churro.” Anyway...

So what did Judith do?

Up and disappeared! 

It would’ve been a really excellent publicity stunt… if she’d ever returned. 

She likes to pretend she’ll never return to Los Angeles. The mountain air is so clean and crisp, life is so much simpler, people are so much less… corrupt.

Alas… somewhere in the back of her mind, has many plans to return to her old life. But she needs to make amends first, right?

PERSONALITY/MISC.:

spent the majority of her life trying to live up to the expectations set by her mom when she basically said “you better be something great to make up for being alive” + trying to unconsciously make up for ‘ruining’ her parents’ marriage.

ngl family took inspiration from the sugarman-horseman family in bojack horseman bc i just finished rewatching it and :\ i miss it :\ which, in turn, means there’s a tiny bit of muse inspo from the eponymous, but,,,,,,,, like she may not be a good person,,,,,,, but if u’ve so much as seen up to s2e11,,,,, she aint THAT bad.

further basis was fictional director kelsey jannings (of such fame as “women who love women who love recycling”) when she said that celebrities tend to stagnate at the age they got famous. and judith got famous when she was 20.

I FEEL LIKE I NEED TO MAKE IT EXCESSIVELY CLEAR THAT SHE NEVER HAD MALICIOUS INTENTS TOWARDS HER CHILDREN. she just knew she wasn’t ready to be a mother with daniel - it was terrible timing and she genuinely worried about how she would be as a mother ( considering how poor maternal instincts were... basically passed down through generations ) - and she didn’t know how to connect with mia, especially as an addict in the hollywood machine that was literally filled with drugs, thus proving her hypothesis that she would be a poor mother correct. like... I JUST NEED TO MAKE IT CLEAR THAT THERE WAS NO ABUSE INVOLVED. SHE AT LEAST DID BETTER THAN HER MOTHER WITH THAT ASPECT.

my pandemic media diet 2/5

Youtube: I have watched a lot of Youtube-Videos in 2020, much more admittedly than is on this list. There is a lot of trash on Youtube, but there are also really good creators who have smart and interesting things to say, who know how to say them well, or who are just able to entertain and teach something at the same time.

Alyssa Beltempo: i love decluttering my apartment, and mostly i love going through my closet. in the beginning of the pandemic i was still very proactive and doing stuff, and Alyssa’s videos about “slow fashion” were really fun and helpful. she does videos like “shopping your own closet” and has demonstrates how to analyze style photos and recreate them with the stuff you already got. she is half italian, half canadian, which means she is a likable ray of sunshine.

The Take: This has been my favourite for a long time and is one of many channels i love on media and film analysis. one kind of video they make is analyzing certain tropes you find in films and TV-series, with classics like “the nice guy”, “Women in refrigerators“ or “the smart woman”. but also have great videos about single characters in different series, like “New Girl” or “Bojack Horseman”. Special recommendation: the “Mad Men”-series.

Lindsay Ellis: Lindsay also analyzes film and media content, and with a lot of dry wit and sharp judgements. her approach is in many ways very academic, and her analysis are very in-depth, but the things she looks are often quite the opposite: blockbuster movies like Marvel movies, the Transformer series, musicals, but also things like sponsored Youtube-content.

Bon Appetit: I love cooking and have really discovered it as a hobby during the pandemic. i had long thought that BA was a bit dumb, but even if it still might be, i found their videos very entertaining and funny. (that said, i had a lot of fun watching it and learned some things during the early months of the pandemic, but i kind of immediatly stopped watching when everything about the kind of messed up working situation came up during the summer. it did sometimes seem too good to be true, that whole atmosphere, and as it turned out, it also was. which is why also the old videos have lost their appeal.)

Chinese Cooking Demystified: Compared to the Condé-Nast-, high-production-value of BA, this is a more lowkey, down-to-earth Youtube channel. They are husband and wife, a young couple living in the US, she is Chinese and he American, but has also lived in China for some time. And they make great cooking videos with dishes from all over China. It’s not only about the recipes itself, but you can learn a lot about the correct technique, and some cultural tidbits.

The Financial Diet: This is also an old favourite, for everyone who wants to watch women-centred/women-made videos about personal finance. Perfect for everyone who wants to get started, budgeting, investing etc., but also learn about certain cultural and social conditions that shape how we relate to our personal finances. There is a whole team working there, but the founder and host Chelsea has a great no-bullshit attitude combined with a lot of knowledge that makes this my go-to Youtube channel for finance.
